Rowoon

Kim Seok Woo, known professionally as Rowoon, is a South Korean singer, dancer, actor and was a member of SF9 on hiatus. 

Before debuting, he spent 6 years as a trainee and was introduced in FNC Entertainment reality show “Cheongdam-dong 111” in 2013. Then, in 2015, he and his group mates performed in Japan and later entered the FNC Entertainment survival show, “d.o.b (Dance or Band)”, competing as part of NEOZ Dance. The agency renamed the group as SF9, and he made his debut in October 2016. He was the group’s lead vocalist, visual and center with their 1st single album “Feeling Sensation”.

He made his acting debut that year with a role in the web drama “Click Your Heart” (클릭유어하트).

In 2019, he was awarded the Best New Actor at the MBC Drama Awards and at the Grimae Awards and in the Korea First Brand Awards he won Male Idol-Actor Award. In 2020, he won the Male Actor Idol of the Year award at the Brand of the Year Awards. In 2021, he renewed his contract with FNC Entertainment and SF9 entered “Kingdom: Legendary War” but finished in last place out of 6 teams. That year, he won 3 awards at the KBS Drama Awards (Best New Actor, Popularity Award – Male and Best Couple Award).

In 2016, the Korean idol group SF9 debuted with nine members, and while the group has enjoyed moderate popularity over the years domestically and abroad, there’s one member who branched out into the acting world: Rowoon. Rowoon departed the group in September 2023 because of how successful his acting career became. A year after SF9 launched into the world, Rowoon was cast in the Korean School franchise in School 2017, where he portrayed a minor supporting role as a transfer student who’s also working as an idol. He had several supporting roles after that, but when he landed a leading role in 2019’s Extraordinary You, it completely changed his career.

What is asset recovery?

Asset recovery involves the confiscation of illicit assets, usually the proceeds of crime, and the return of these assets to the legitimate owner(s). Assets can take the form of money or other items of value, for example real estate, precious metals, investments such as shares, virtual assets such as cryptocurrencies, race horses, luxury goods, or an aeroplane. Asset recovery can be a purely domestic process when the funds have been hidden or invested in the jurisdiction where they were illegally obtained. It can also be international, when the funds have been sent to another jurisdiction. The process of asset recovery is complex but generally covers four basic phases: pre-investigation (verification of information), investigation (often including seizing/freezing assets and international cooperation to obtain intelligence or evidence), judicial proceedings (following which the court may issue a confiscation order for the assets), and disposal or return (where the assets are returned to the rightful owner).

Why is asset recovery important in preventing and combatting corruption?

First, for its deterrent effect. People are more likely to engage in corrupt behaviour if they are confident that – even if they are caught and convicted – they and their families will still be able to enjoy their illegally obtained wealth. Recovering illicit assets helps deter corruption by turning it into a higher-risk, lower-reward activity. Second, by convicting corrupt officials and recovering stolen assets, countries can also generate funds for development and strengthen their criminal justice system. The end results are stronger rule of law, integrity and trust in government.
